About.
Hi. My name is Arush and welcome to my blog! I’m a 2nd year student at the University of Waterloo, doing a double major in Mathematical Finance and Statistics with a minor in Pure Mathematics.
First and foremost, I absolutely adore problem-solving - the very art of it, what it is as a discipline, the different modes of thinking and the ideas you come up with, how they’re weaved together to solve a problem, etc. - I love it all too much! So, you will see me posting about cool techniques, problems, my (upcoming) competition experiences and the books I read on it!
Secondly, I love mathematics, especially statistics and probability theory. You will see me posting a lot about this as well; be it papers, proofs or just specific things in general.
Lastly, I do neural networks stuff and mechanistic interpretability specifically in my free time. I may not be aware of the entire corpus of ML in general, but I personally find neural networks extremely fascinating. I kind of think of them like digital creatures that ‘think’ wildly different from us (which explains why I practise and explore studying their biology).
Asides all this:
- I love listening to podcasts (some of which I might gate-keep to preserve their ’hidden-gem’ status).
- Reading others’ blogs and reading books I like (I have a bad habit of buying more books than I read).
- Going on extremely long walks and swimming.
- Exploring Urdu poetry, art and cooking.
- Traveling.
So, again, welcome to the blog. I hope you enjoy your stay here.
:)
